A sliding door moves along a track instead of swinging into the aisle. It suits wide openings and areas where floor space in front of the room is limited.

In short: allow wall space beside the opening, keep the track and guide protected, and confirm how the seal compresses when closed.

Sliding doors may be manual or powered. They need correct alignment so the leaf moves freely and seals at the final part of travel. Ice, damaged guides or a distorted track can create a safety risk.

A wide opening admits a large amount of warm air. In busy areas, combine the door with traffic control, a curtain or another engineered solution.

Sliding doors are industry context and are not the default door on standard Frostbox room packages.

How a sliding leaf seals

A sliding leaf cannot squeeze a gasket the way a hinged door does, so the sealing mechanism does the work:

  • Manual versions use a cam action that pulls the leaf against the frame at the end of travel.
  • Motorised versions inflate a perimeter bladder seal once shut, sealing tight without dragging the gasket on every cycle.
Sliding-door section, industry example — a leaf on a top-hung stainless track with a floor guide and a heated threshold (freezer option); insets show the inflatable perimeter seal of a motorised door, deflated when open and inflated when sealed. The Frostbox standard is a hinged door.

When to choose sliding

Pick a sliding door when a hinged leaf's swing arc would block a forklift path or racking, or when the opening is simply too wide for a single hinged leaf. For continuous high-traffic flow (50+ cycles/hour), step up to a high-speed roll door instead.

For freezer detailing — heated frame, threshold, and gasket choice — see Gaskets, freezer detailing & the safety release.

Sliding-door sizes and mechanisms above are industry-typical, not part of the standard Frostbox range. Frostbox supplies semi-recessed hinged doors as standard; other door types can be quoted on request — contact [email protected].
