Door choice depends on opening size, traffic, temperature and available space.

In short: Frostbox rooms normally use a semi-recessed hinged door. Sliding and high-speed doors are options for different applications, not standard equipment.

  • Hinged: simple and effective for pedestrian traffic and moderate use.
  • Sliding: useful for wide openings where a swing leaf would obstruct the aisle.
  • High-speed roll: reduces open time in very busy routes but needs a separate insulated closure strategy where required.

Standard Frostbox clear openings are typically 700 × 1,800 mm for narrow rooms or 900 × 1,800 mm. Confirm the ordered drawing. Every personnel door must allow safe opening from inside.

The three questions that drive door choice

Door choice is driven by three questions, in order: how often it opens, how wide the opening must be, and how cold the room runs.

Door typeBest traffic levelTypical openingDriveWhere it fits

High-speed / rapid-rollHeavy — 50+ cycles/hrContinuous flowMotorisedProduction lines, clean rooms, busy logistics
Door openings per hour decide the door type — three cards, one above the other: a hinged door opening outward, the Frostbox standard 700 / 900 × 1800 mm, for fewer than 20 openings per hour; a sliding leaf running along the outer wall face, on request, for 20–50 openings per hour; a high-speed roll door that rolls up, on request, for 50 or more.
Cold-room door types
Hinged cold-room door, the Frostbox standard (700 / 900 × 1800 mm); sliding and high-speed roll doors are available on request for heavier traffic.

Two specs that apply to every door

Whichever type you choose, two details decide whether it actually performs:

  • Gasket and frame for the temperature — the Frostbox standard door has a PVC perimeter gasket, plus a heating cable in the frame and threshold for a freezer. See Gaskets, freezer detailing & the safety release.
  • An internal safety release on every door, so a person can escape from the inside even when the outside handle is locked.

For a guided room specification, use the Frostbox size calculator, or see Choosing the right cold room.

The Frostbox standard door is a semi-recessed hinged door, 700 × 1800 mm or 900 × 1800 mm, with the Equa handle and internal emergency release. Sliding and high-speed doors are described here as industry context and can be quoted on request — contact [email protected].
