The Frostbox calculator estimates how much chilled and frozen storage capacity a food-service business needs. It uses the type of operation, meals served, working pattern, delivery frequency, kitchen traffic and equipment already in use.
In short: answer a short series of questions about the business. The calculator returns an estimated chilled and frozen capacity in cubic metres, suggested panel thickness, panel U-value and matching catalogue products. You need to sign in before the result is displayed.
What is the calculator for?
It helps answer three practical questions:
- How much total refrigerated storage capacity does the site need?
- How should that capacity be divided between chilled and frozen storage?
- How much of the requirement is already covered by refrigerators, counters and freezers that will remain in use?
For a very small requirement, the calculator may suggest that conventional cabinets or counters make more sense than a walk-in room.
What information do you enter?

- meals or portions prepared per day;
- menu complexity on a scale from 1 to 5;
- cuisine type, when this field appears for the selected business;
- delivery frequency;
- level of kitchen traffic;
- capacity of existing chillers and freezers that will still be used;
- optional site details and notes.
What does the result include?
- total required capacity in cubic metres and litres;
- the split between chilled and frozen storage;
- extra capacity needed after current equipment is taken into account;
- suggested panel thickness and U-value;
- warnings that affect how the result should be used;
- suitable products from the current catalogue, where available;
- an option to print the result and return to saved calculations.
What does it not calculate?
This is a storage-capacity calculator, not a complete refrigeration design tool. It does not ask directly for ambient temperature, exact product temperature, room dimensions or the panel delivery route. It does not provide a full heat-load calculation, annual energy use or a final refrigeration-unit selection.
