The calculator estimates storage capacity from the way a business operates. This article explains every question and how to read the result.
In short: you enter business type, production scale, menu complexity, delivery frequency, kitchen traffic and existing equipment. The calculator returns chilled and frozen capacity, a suggested panel option and matching catalogue products.
Inputs
| Field | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Business type | Sets the initial capacity and a typical split between chilled and frozen storage. |
| Meals per day | Describes the scale of the operation. The form accepts 1 to 10,000 meals or portions. |
| Menu complexity | A larger range of ingredients normally needs more storage. Choose 1 to 5. |
| Cuisine type | An optional field shown for selected business types; it helps adjust the chilled/frozen split. |
| Delivery frequency | Less frequent deliveries mean a larger quantity stored at one time. |
| Kitchen traffic | More frequent access increases the operating reserve. |
| Existing equipment | Enter the total capacity of refrigerators and freezers that will remain in service. |
| Site details and notes | Optional information that identifies the calculation and records unusual requirements. |
For current equipment, the calculator treats 70% of the stated volume as usable. This allows for shelves, airflow and space that cannot be filled with product.
Outputs
| Result | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Total capacity | Estimated chilled plus frozen storage, shown in cubic metres and litres. |
| Chiller and freezer split | The suggested division of the total requirement. |
| Additional capacity | What remains after the usable share of current equipment is deducted. |
| Panel thickness | Suggested option. The current calculator offers 80, 100 or 120 mm for chillers and 100 or 120 mm for freezers. |
| U-value | Heat transfer through the panel; lower is better insulation. |
| Important notes | Warnings that must be reviewed before accepting the result. |
| Recommended products | Matching items from the current catalogue, when the tool finds them. |
If the estimated requirement is below 2 m³, the calculator may suggest that a walk-in room is unnecessary. Compare the cost and convenience of cabinets, refrigerated counters or freezers before deciding.
What is not included?
The result does not provide finished room dimensions, heat load in kW, annual energy use or a final unit model. Those require target temperature, ambient conditions, product information and installation data.
