Call for oil marks or hissing, compressor or fan faults, repeated trips, burning signs, failed defrost, controller errors or poor cooling after basic checks.
In short: never open any refrigerant circuit yourself.
F-gases have certification rules; R290 is flammable and also needs suitable training and tools. Provide model, serial number, refrigerant, error codes and readings.
Symptoms that mean "call a technician"
| Symptom you observe | Likely fault | Why it is not DIY |
|---|---|---|
| Oil stains on lines, hissing, gradual loss of cooling | Refrigerant leak | Refrigerant is handled under licence; a leak must be found, repaired, recovered, and recharged correctly |
| Compressor silent, tripping the breaker, or unusually noisy | Compressor failure | High-current electrical and sealed-circuit work |
| Burning smell, tripped breakers, flickering lights, shock risk | Electrical fault | Shock and fire hazard; mains-side diagnosis |
| No heat during defrost, evaporator stays iced | Failed defrost heater | Diagnosis and replacement of an electrical heating element |
| Display errors, system unresponsive to inputs | Controller malfunction | Parameter and wiring diagnosis on the control board |
| Unusual frost pattern, superheat off | Expansion-valve problem | Inside the refrigerant circuit |
| Fans not turning or making unusual noise | Fan-motor failure | Electrical component replacement |
Refrigerant is regulated, not just risky
Under Regulation (EU) 2024/573 (the F-gas Regulation, in force since 11 March 2024), only certified personnel may open, service, or decommission the refrigerant circuit of equipment containing fluorinated refrigerant. (Exception: Frostbox GS and SP-O quick-connect splits ship with factory-charged 2.5/5/10 m line sets and are designed for self-installation without an F-gas certificate, because the sealed circuit is never opened; line runs over 10 m require a standard split installed by a certified technician.) Frostbox units are built around Daikin condensing systems (GS, SP-O, DB-O, SAR, SAS families); their datasheets specify the refrigerant and charge per model. Opening that circuit without certification is both unsafe and unlawful.
