Check door sealing, recent warm deliveries, product blocking airflow, evaporator ice, condenser dirt and the independent temperature reading.
In short: if simple causes are removed and cooling remains poor, call service.
A sensor, defrost, fan, compressor, leak or sizing problem needs proper diagnosis. Continuous running alone does not prove low refrigerant.
Symptoms
The unit runs continuously but never reaches the setpoint, and product is warmer than it should be.
Causes and fixes
| Possible cause | How to check | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Door not sealing | Close the door and look for light gaps from inside; feel for air movement around the gasket. | Adjust hinges for even compression; replace a torn or compressed gasket. See Door problems. |
| Evaporator iced up | Inspect the coils — heavy ice blocks airflow and collapses capacity. | Run a defrost cycle; verify the defrost heater and timer. See Ice & condensation issues. |
| Blocked airflow | Check whether stored product blocks the evaporator intake or discharge. | Rearrange storage; maintain 100 mm clearance around the evaporator. |
| Dirty condenser | Inspect the condenser coil — dust and debris cut heat rejection. | Clean with a soft brush or compressed air. See Condenser maintenance. |
| Excessive door openings | Observe usage — every opening admits warm, humid air. | Fit a strip curtain; train staff to batch retrievals and close promptly. |
| Low refrigerant charge | Look for oily stains near refrigerant lines; listen for unusual hissing. | Call a qualified refrigeration technician. Refrigerant requires licensed handling — never attempt a DIY top-up. |
| Undersized unit | Compressor runs at 100 % yet the room stays warm with the door shut. | Recalculate the heat load — see Heat load calculation. The unit may need replacing or supplementing. |
Rule of thumb
If the evaporator is iced or the condenser is dirty, you are looking at a maintenance problem you can usually fix yourself. If the coil is clean, the airflow is clear, the door seals, and the room still won't cool, suspect the sealed circuit — that is technician territory. On a Frostbox room the cooling comes from a Daikin condensing unit, and its sealed circuit must only be opened by a certified engineer.
