In short: most later door and condensation problems begin with the base, panel alignment or an unfinished joint.

Common mistakes include:

  • building on an uneven or wet floor;
  • using the wrong panel order;
  • forcing edges or overtightening Cam-Locks;
  • failing to check level, vertical and diagonals;
  • leaving penetrations or plugs unsealed;
  • mounting heavy equipment without proper support;
  • skipping commissioning and safety tests.

A crooked door may be the final symptom of a floor or wall error. Fix the first cause rather than repeatedly adjusting the latch.

Why installation mistakes are so costly

A cam-lock cold room is a single thermal envelope. Every joint, seal, and panel either keeps heat out or lets it in — there is no redundancy. A defect that would be cosmetic in dry construction becomes a continuous energy leak here, and many defects are locked in the moment the cams are tightened. Correcting an out-of-plumb wall after the ceiling is on can mean dismantling half the room.

The mistakes compound: an unlevel floor guarantees leaning walls, which guarantee a poorly seating ceiling and a door that will not seal. Catching the first error prevents the cascade.

Cause-and-effect cascade flow — "Unlevel floor" → "Leaning walls" → "Ceiling gaps" → "Door won't seal" → "Energy loss + condensation", each box feeding the next, with a "STOP & VERIFY" gate (floor level within ±3 mm/m) breaking the chain after the floor stage.
How one unlevel floor cascades

The seven assembly mistakes at a glance

#MistakePrimary consequenceThe fixCovered in
1Building on an uneven floorRocking panels, leaning walls, gapsVerify ±3 mm/m before any panelStructural mistakes
2Forcing misaligned panelsDamaged groove, crushed gasketsStop, clear, realign — let the cam pullStructural mistakes
3Skipping plumb checksCumulative lean; nothing fitsCheck plumb on every panelStructural mistakes
4Incomplete cam-lock engagementGaskets don't compress; joints loosenTurn until resistance rises sharplyStructural mistakes
5Ignoring door alignmentUneven gasket, continuous leak, frostSet frame plumb and square; test closureDoor, sealing & commissioning
6Inadequate sealingAir infiltration, in-panel condensationSeal every internal joint and penetrationDoor, sealing & commissioning
7No commissioning testFaults found after the installer leavesRun a full pull-down and leak testDoor, sealing & commissioning

A separate design-stage error — sizing refrigeration on room volume alone — is covered in Refrigeration sizing mistakes.

The common thread

Symptom on a finished roomMistake that caused it
Door ices up / won't sealUnlevel floor (1), no plumb checks (3), or door misalignment (5)
Compressor runs non-stopAir leaks from poor sealing (6) or refrigeration under-sizing
Condensation inside panelsIncomplete sealing (6) or forced/crushed gaskets (2)
Joints loosen over monthsIncomplete cam-lock engagement (4)
Disputes after handoverNo commissioning test (7)

Every entry is preventable, and they all trace back to the same habit: skipping a check to save minutes. Take the time — check every panel, seal every joint, and test before you leave.

The MTH Algor assembly card closes with a one-page "five most expensive assembly mistakes" sheet — mistakes 1 to 5 above, each with its fix, laid out to print and hand to the crew before they open the first pallet: download the documents.
