Anyone entering a cold room must be able to leave quickly, including during a power failure.

In short: provide an inside door release, adequate lighting and a suitable alarm or communication method based on the risk assessment.

Before use, check that:

the inside release opens the door even when locked outside;
the handle is visible and unobstructed;
lighting works and emergency lighting is provided where required;
alarms can be heard or received by someone outside;
the floor and escape route are clear;
staff know the emergency procedure.

High-risk or isolated sites may need trapped-person alarms, panic buttons, door-status monitoring or occupancy controls. Local workplace and fire requirements determine the final equipment.

The three items

Internal safety release — lets a person open the door from inside even when the external handle is locked. This is standard on every Frostbox door and should be glow-in-the-dark marked so it is findable if the lights fail.
Emergency alarm button — an interior button that triggers an external alarm to summon help. Required in many jurisdictions for freezer rooms.
Emergency lighting — battery-backed light that activates on power failure so an occupant can find the release and exit safely.

What is baseline vs. required

The internal safety release is the baseline and ships on every door. For walk-in freezers, the emergency alarm button and emergency lighting should be treated as required, not optional — a person trapped in a dark, locked freezer is a genuine hazard the other two items address directly.
